The Congress party is running a signature campaign demanding caste census and increasing the reservation limit to more than 50 percent. This campaign will conclude on Wednesday on Mandal Day at the state headquarters and a letter containing one lakh signatures will be sent to the President.
The Minority and Backward Classes and Fisherman Department of the Congress is jointly running a signature campaign from July 26. After the campaign in various districts, Mandal Day and Round Table Conference will be organized at the state headquarters on Wednesday.
Manoj Yadav, president of the Backward Classes Department, said that 7 August is the anniversary of the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations in 1990. Therefore, Congress leaders from across the state have been called to the state headquarters on this day. A letter containing about one lakh signatures will be sent to the President.
State President of Minority Department Shahnawaz Alam and Fisherman Congress President Devendra Nishad said that this campaign will be run continuously to spread Rahul Gandhi’s agenda of social justice to the masses. The demand for conducting caste census and removing the 50 percent restriction on reservation has received support across the state.
